History
Dit ambacht omvatte verschillende beroepen en stielen, waaronder de kruideniers, de hoeden- en handschoenmakers, enz. (nu kortweg "middenstanders"). Van 173 tot 1795 werd de gildekamer van de kruisbooggilde Sint-Joris, in het Groenhuis op de Grote Markt (nr. 37), ook verhuurd aan de Meerseniers. In 1796, onder het Franse bewind, werden de ambachten afgeschaft en in 1798 werden hun bezittingen openbaar verkocht.
